4 babies have been born at Bifengxia Panda Base and I was lucky enough to witness 2 of those births! Our first mama, Ying Hua had a tiny baby girl weighing only 90 grams (that’s only 3 ounces!) on June 19th. Ying Hua, is an experienced mother, so once her cub was delivered, Ying Hua picked her right up and began cleaning her! Because this little girl was so small, she spent some time with the vet staff for check-ups but was always quickly returned to mom and has been thriving ever since!
Qian Qian gave birth to twin boys on June 27th. The healthy boys weighed 166 grams and 162 grams (almost 6 ounces each!) Qian Qian is a first time mom and little unsure of how to provide adequate care for her sons. In fact, she was a little frightened of them! The boys are being raised in the nursery for the time being, making occasional visits to mom. In the meantime, keeper staff have provided Qian Qian with a stuffed panda to help teach her the necessary mothering skills she needs. Here is a video that was taken by iPanda that shows the keeper staff caring for Qian Qian’s twins.

Xi Xi, a quite skilled mother, gave birth to a cub on June 30th. She was so fast to start caring for her cub after delivery that the neonatal exam was cut short. Xi Xi gave birth to a healthy baby boy. The birth was broadcast live by iPanda. I have attached the link for your viewing pleasure.
