Tai Shan “Butterstick” was born on July 9th, 2005 at the National Zoo in Washington D.C. His mother, Mei Xiang and Father, Tian Tian, were the National Zoo’s second pair of giant pandas. Like us, Tai Shan is an international traveler. He stayed at the National Zoo for a little over 4 years before moving to Bifengxia in 2010 and to Dujiangyan in 2014. An interesting note- Tai Shan is being fed multiple species of bamboo at Dujiangyan. He looks to be a fat and happy bear, but maybe he likes how quiet his new home is (Dujiangyan is only open to reservations). We plan to highlight a few more pandas while we are visiting.
