Busy days here at the Bifengxia panda base. Not only from PDXWildlife studies, but also from a massive reconstruction of the tourist facilities and bear pens. As all of the remodeling began about a year ago, they seem to have wrapped the majority of the work up yesterday, which was coordinated with a visit from the regional and national tourist designation authority. I for one am excited to see the facility make leaps and bounds to improve both the panda enrichment as well as the tourist experience.
With panda bear themed garbage cans, multi-tiered structures, bear balls, and a new visitors center, Bifengxia is improving all aspects of being a panda breeding/housing facility. We’ve enjoyed seeing the bears in their new pens that include bamboo holding pipes that are either laid in the ground or in a vase-like structure. There is now a video viewing “house” next to the White Bear Ground, as well as a few updated paths that connect the back side of Lin Bing’s pen to the kindergarten. This gives you an overview of the cubs hiding in the trees- Great photo opportunities.
I’ve come to notice all of the subtle, positive changes that take place from year to year and I’m glad that PDXWildlife could be part of it. I’m sure that the next 5 years will be just as exciting.
