PDXWildlife BOARD MEMBER: PUBLIC RELATIONS AND MEDIA

 SUMMARY

PDXWildlife is seeking a board member with non-profit experience who will be responsible for managing public relations and media content for PDXWildlife. PDXWildlife was founded in 2011 and is a 501 (c) 3 non-profit working to conserve species and habitats by producing innovative, high-quality research and educating communities about their natural resources. We are looking for individuals who are passionate about organizing to create solutions to wildlife conservation in Oregon and internationally. Because we are in a capacity-building and development phase, we are looking for an individual committed to developing a sustainable non-profit and is passionate about our mission and work.

Stipend: Unpaid.

Hours: Expected to work 5-10 hours per week. Monday-Thursday preferred but flexible.

Location: Portland, OR

PRIMARY RESPONSIBILITIES

The majority of the position will require overseeing marketing and strategic communications for PDXWildlife. They will develop the creative expression of the PDXWildlife brand across all media and advertising channels, ensuring that PDXWildlife messaging remains strong and consistent. Direct public relations for the company. Responsibilities will include:

• Implement social media strategies.

• Grow online supporter base and traffic.

• Perform social media community management duties.

• Build and sustain online communities.

• Manage relationships with media outlets.

• Produce and publish mass communications with email blasts and marketing campaigns.

• Work with media outlets to publish timely company information, such as press releases, brochures, and other materials.

• Ensure communication strategy is consistent and reflects the organization’s strategic vision.

• Publish videos and photography on company website and blogs.

• Document presence of companies at events, conferences, and speaking engagements.

• Advocate on behalf of the company brand with external stakeholders and the media across all communications channels and vehicles.

• Edit and revise content as necessary.

• Use media outreach to help fundraise for the non-profit.

QUALIFICATIONS

• Willing and able to serve a minimum of a one-year term

• Degree in Communications, Public Relations, Business or Non-profit Management, or 2+ years of previous PR experience highly preferred.

• Exceptional written, communication and presentation skills required.

• Knowledge of the social media ecosystem.

• Ability to develop strong networks and build credibility within the organization.

• Excellent editing, proofreading and project management experience with attention to detail.

• Excellent computer skills, including proficiency with Office (Word, PowerPoint and Excel), web site design programs, the Adobe Suite, as well as flexibility with similar alternative programs.
