Pan Pan “Hero Dad” was born in 1985 and was originally rescued in the mountains of Baoxing County, northwest of Ya’an, Sichuan, China. For the first year of his life, Pan Pan was raised along side another cub, An An, in the small home of Li Wuke, who had previous experience with rescuing pandas. Pan Pan, who is the oldest living captive male giant panda has had an exciting life. His direct descendants include 130 cubs in the span of 20 years. He is currently housed at the CCRCGP Dujiangyan panda base.

Pan Pan celebrated his 30th birthday last month and is proud to show his age by casually strolling around his enclosure and relaxing on logs and rocks.
Interesting fact- Pan Pan is not the oldest captive bear, not by a long shot. Jia Jia of Ocean Park in Hong Kong is 37 years old and the record holder as of this year.
